and the instructor wasnt the best. we went in the ocean, we stayed their for like 5 hours., l am a beginner, and i'm not very good and l was not very happy. on the 5th day (the last day) he was trying to make go in to the line-up (far), l was scared. l tried it but the waves kept on crashing over me and id fall off. but my point is l could barley stay on the little waves and he told me to go to the line-up, and now i'm scared to go surfing. this might sound dumb but if l go rent a board could l stay with the small waves, like for the rest of my life? because l get scared when big waves crash on my and l fall?

hey surfing get really easy and fun after you get out there and practise, also the type of board you are using will improve your skills, like small waves get a thicker board or longboard and just keep trying to stay on the board, you will see what i'm talking about after you get some waves, just remember do not go to far out and pay attention to the rip tide

You should just face your fears.when l was 3 and started surfing l started in knee high conditions and stayed in that till l was about 4..then l went to waist..each year l got better and moved up a noch..Stick to surfing...it lets out your inner self

Well, there r certainly better surf schools/camps. l hope the HB Snake sees ur question, he may be able to make some recommendations that r helpful.

Part of the reason u were scared, is that u r not ready to surf. way too many people think that they can jump on a surfboard & ride like a pro because they know how to swim in a pool. Surfing is an ocean sport, & should only be practiced be people who r comfortable, competent ocean swimmers. You have to be familiar with the undertows, rips & BIG waves.

How about taking a step back? Go to the beach & swim in the ocean. Body surf. Boogie board a little, & swim out through the breakers. You will eventually get the hang of it. l did when l was a little guy, but l did not start to surf until l was 14, & already at home in the ocean. When u r home in the sea, then go get GOOD surfing lessons.

Now, u could try the little wave routine on a rented board. But, u will probably never get any better, & u will surely getting in the way of experienced surfers, who will then want to drown u for it.

My son, daughter-in-law & son-in-law & l r teaching my grandchildren (all 5 ages 5-9) how to surf. But, first, we spend time making them little water men (or water women). Playing, swimming in the ocean & body surfing & enjoying crashing around in the big waves.Like someone said, surfing is supposed to be FUN. Well, l have been surfing for 42 years, & it so much fun, it is worth taking the time to learn how to do it right. Relax, learn to be at home in the ocean, & l hope youy have as much fun as l have had.
