it depends on wat your doing wrong. l assume you know the basics so make sure you: keep knees bent and bend forward (not too far tho), you have to have alot of upperbody strength to be able to jump up during your wave. kook means kindof silly, strange, crazy. like cuckoo?

Well, a kook is somebody who does not know how to surf who goes out & gets in the way of surfers who do know what they r doing. Now, that is not fair to call people who r just learning kooks, but, that seems to be where ur problem arises. The worst thing u can do is just grab a board & get in the middle of a bunch of surfers.

Surfing is an actvity that should only be practiced by someone who is comfortable in the ocean, with its rips, currents, & sometimes BIG waves. There r already way too many dangerous people in the water who think they can surf. They area a danger to themselves & other surfers. Do not join their ranks.

Lessons r the best way to start, unless u r a young adult or adolescent with surfing pals who can teach u . You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up do not want to drown you), how to paddle & take off on a wave, & how to ride a wave.

Be very careful of what u read here on line. Some of the folks who answer on this site r very nice young folks, but not really very experienced surfers. In fact some of the folks who r giving u advice may not know as much about surfing as u do. After l found this site, l figured that l could answer a few questions, & spread the 'good news' of surfing.

l do not know what u r riding, but most people learn best on long boards, although l have seen lots of surfers start on a short board & master it. In the long run, there r NO RULES on what type of board u have to learn on. A board has to be bouyant enough to float u well enough for u to paddle & take off on a wave. A surfer is board preference depends on three things: Their size (what will float them how much u weigh is what is important, not how tall u are), Their skill level (beginner to advanced) & the type of waves usually encountered at their local breaks.

l have been surfing for 42 years, & l get my surfboard buying advice from good local surf shops in the places where l surf. Beginners should not worry about buying a board. Renting a board (either from the instructor or shop) while taking lessons is the best way to go. Once u have mastered the basics, try a couple different types/styles of boards, & then decide what u want to ride

Surfing is supposed to be fun. And part of that means sharing the waves. But it is just good manners for youto know what u r doing before u go out there & get in the line up. Take some lessons, have fun & when have been surfing for awhile, u will undersatnd what they meant when they called u a look. Now, l hope u have as much fun as l have had over the years.

A kook is a beginner. Just keep practicing. If you are falling every time look into getting some surf lessons.

l think that perhaps a kook is somebody who does not know how to surf very well, or one who goes out & gets in the way of surfers who r rather good at what they do. l will never understand why a lot of guys feel the need to start calling people names when they r obviously just learning how to surf. If they remember, they once were beginners too, but here in Hawaii, people tend to learn how to surf at a very young age, they start off with just body boarding, then boogie boarding & then surfing.. so when they r older they have had years of experience. Just try to stay out of the way when there r a group of surfers together. If u keep falling off, then u need to work on ur balance, try doing that before u start trying to catch some waves. Start of with balancing in a kneeling position, then as u get better, work on ur balance as u stand, once u have master these two, then u can start working on catching some waves. Good Luck ! =P

Practice, Practice, Practice. You should really find a beach break where their is no one really out. That way you wo not be in anyone is way, you wo not be fighting people for waves, and it does not matter if you fall because no one is around!

A kook is someone who does not know what they are doing. Or it is a person that thinks they shred but don't. Those guys are the worst.

Stick with it you will be ''throwing buckets'' in no time.
