l recently just got my hands on a sick 6'2. Only prob. is is that the person who is selling it before did not lay a traction pad on it. And there is wax on it, I've got a traction pad ready, but wanted to ask yall. l heard you should use acetone to make sure the wax is totally off. However, l also heard acetone is bad for the board? Anyways, what do you suggest l do before laying some new traction.

Hmm. There r several methods u can use. Depends on how much work u wanna put into it, l guess.
There is always a wax comb, which is specifically for removing it off boards.
Then there is the hairdryer/credit card trick. Just use a dryer & hold it about 12 inches from the board then when the wax begins to melt take an old credit card & scrape it off.
l am not so sure about acetone is such a good idea for the board, just because I'd be afraid it'd ruin the finish, too.

There is something called a wax comb made exactly for what u want to do. Use the narrow kind of sharp side to get all that wax off. You can buy a comb for like 5 bucks at most surf shops but if u wanna get that wax off right now u can use a razor blade, just do not cut into the glass. It is a bit more work & u will have a super sore index finger & thumb but if you're feeling ambitious then go at it. And for sure do not use acetone. It is not good for the board & it will just make a fatter mess than Rosie O'Donell dropping the crosby kids off at the pool. And do not melt the wax of either, that is kind of a mess to & it wont completely get the wax off either.

Scrape as much was as possible with the scraper side of a wax comb or get a plastic putty knife from the hardware store. Get a citrus based was remover from your local surf shop. Follow up with Windex or other glass cleaner (not all purpose) to get any film off.

l just used an old cd and some methylated spirits to get rid of the wax. also you can use a hair dryer to melt the wax so it comes of easier.

Set your board in the sun for 5 min. and then use a wax comb and scrape all of it off. After that use a surf wax remover which you can buy at a surf shop.

l use a blow dryer, a plastic scraper and a clean towel. Just heat up your board with the dryer and scrape off the most of it then go back and wipe it off with the towel.

Do not use acetone, and do not use a hair dryer. Lay the board in the sun for 10-15 minutes to soften the wax. Scrape the wax off with an old credit card. Rub the area down with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol. The new pad should include a cleaning/solvent wipe with the instructions.If not, rely on rubbing alcohol. Acetone and a hair dryer can damage your stick.

Scrape it and clean the board with some sort of citrus (orange cleaner or GooBGone) or petroleum distillate (Sex Wex XXX) based cleaner. Then after than clean it with some simple soap and water to remove any residue from the solvent.

first take off what u can with the non jagged edge of a wax comb. then leave ur board in the sun for like 10 minutes (leave the part with wax on it that u dont want to put wax on in the shade so have the tail just sticking out in the sun for a few minutes) then scrape off all the sun-melted wax. then they actually do have wax remover. buy some & use it on ur board to take off all of the remaining wax. then put ur traction pad on & wait atleas 12 hours so it will stay on there. after that, go surf!

Alright here is what u gotta do. Make sure u have a wax comb (even a spatula will do but wax combs r specially designed to do this & work better). The next thing u will need is sun!!!! -lots of it too. Put the board out in the sun for a little bit so the wax will start to melt. use the comb to scrape off the wax which will come off with ease. Just keep scrapping the wax off in the sun untill its all off. Use a rough towel just to polish it & get all the little pieces off.

the best way l know of, is to apply heat to your board using a blow dryer on the hottest heat setting you have, and apply the heat to the wax where you would like to remove it, while using a wax comb to scrape the soft, melting wax off of your board.

Some of these are pretty good, but l think Surfammo & Kim_dude have the best tips. Avoid hair dryers and acetone.
