My fiance is 240lbs of muscle and 6'1''. Is he too heavy to use a 6'1'' surfboard? l bought him this board but will he be able to use it? How about a 6 4 board? or does he HAVE to use a longboard???? help?

So... If l am 150lbs (athletic) l can ride a 6'1'' thruster? ...sorry but what is a thruster? is that anything that is not a fish or a longboard? also what height of waves is a thruster good for???

A 6'1'' board will be a little difficult for him to ride. He can but it will be a little shaky with a drag on the tail. A little larger board would be a smoother ride. If his weight makes him a little slow to ''pop-up'' on the board, you should look exclusively at the longboard.

l doubt he will catch any waves on a 6'1. There r Big Boy thrusters, sold by almost every manufacturer, or made by local shapers. This is only an example: http://cisurfboards.com/sb_mbb.asp

A 7'2 may be a better choice for him. Best advice is to speak with a sales person at a local surf shop. You may be able to return the board, or swap it out for a Big Boy shortboard. On a side note, epoxy boards r more buoyant, carry more volume & can be ridden shorter. Fish boards also float well & r ridden shorter.

Depending on the thickness, the 6'1 may float you, but it will be difficult to learn on.

Edit: You definitely need to speak with an expert at a surf shop. Otherwise you'lll make several wasted purchases. No offense intended, but if u do not know about fish, or thrusters, there is still a lot for u to learn about. The advice the surf shop professionals give is absolutely free.

If it is a fish then maybe, but if it is a thruster then probably not.

well this question only has to do with part of the height of the board. it mostly depends on how thick the board is. u really should go to a surf shop & talk to the guys to get ur board. l think he will really have some trouble using that board.

you may be able to use this board. it sounds like u r new to surfing & shortboards arent really the best choice for a new surfer. u should go with a longer board, like a mini mal or a funboard. how tall r you? if u r around the 5'6 to 6' height, u r going to have some trouble using this board too. u will have better luck using the board than ur fiance though. u should sell the board & buy some new boards at a surf shop with the help of the employees. surfing really isnt fun if u dont have the right board.

now it is possible for u to use the board, but l doubt ur fiance will be able to ride it. shortboards r extremely hard to learn on but once u actually take the time & dedication, u can learn on the shortboard. most people give up when learning on a shortboard because it is very frustrating. if u think u have the dedication, go ahead & use the shortboard. if not, just sell it & buy a bigger board. hope this helps. have fun surfing & good luck!

l think that Surfammo gave you a very good answer. l could only add that l have been over 200 lbs for most of my adult life. l rode a 6'4' board for twenty years, but it was on a very thick blank. l weigh around 220 now (and discounting the fact that l am an old guy), and l would find it just about impossible to ride an off the rack, 6'1'' surfboard. Please go to a surf shop.
