Anyone familiar with this surfing injury

l took my kids surfing at the weekend (Sunday).

The waves were about 3 feet. My 10 year old was thrown into the sand, grazed his stomache and then uncharacteristically said he now wanted to go home.

Later that night he said the skin on his upper and lower arm hurt. It still hurts today. Also when he moves his arm it hurts inside the joint like a strained muscle.

There had been a couple of small pieces of dead jelly fish around but his arm shows no sign of a rash.

Are there any surfers who might be familiar with this condition ?

Any medical staff who thinks this could be a nerve injury in the shoulders (even though his shoulder was not really hit) ?

Its probably a little sandburn and some brusing of the muscle of his arm, and he will probably be ok, but just to be sure you probably should go to a doctor to have it checked out, if it is serious you dont want to leave it untreated. l can pretty much rule out the jellyfish, you would definitly know it if it was a jellyfish.

it kind of sounds like he ''broke his fall'' by stretching out his arms. its usually not wise to try & break ur fall while surfing--ideally, u should just kind of (get out of the boards way) & let it happen.
i've strained muscles & joints by falling in shallow breaks. his skin probably has the surfing version of ''road rash''.
you could always go the safe route & take him to get looked at, but if it was me (this is NOT medical advice)--i'd let it go for a few more days, he should get over it..

his skin is probably irritated by the skidding on the sand, and his muscles probably got bruised

but if you want the best choice would be to take him to the dr's

l do not like to be nasty, but for goodness sakes, take the child to a doctor, not a bunch of nitwits like us out here in cyberspace! l am no doctor, but even if l was, l would not make a diagnosis on line. l have bent, broken and bruised every part of my body while surfing, and survived. But l raised two kids and have five grandchildren, and l would never ask questions about their well - being on line!
