Why do some longboarders attach their leash below their knee

Makes it easier to swim.

If a long boarder attaches their leash on there ankle, there would be too much slack which could cause some mess ups. If its below the knee, he slack would be gone and the leash would not be in the way.

its also easier to swim with.

To reduce the drag of the leash in the water.

Your supposed to attach it below your knee so it is easier to kick when you swim.

as all the usesrs before me said, it creates less drag and its easier to swim with, but there is also another reason. ff the longboarder wants to go for a nose ride and the leash is right below their knee, it is more out of the way than when it is on your ankle. so you wont get tangled when you go for a nose ride, which will give you a better and longer ride.

So they do not trip over it while they are 'cross stepping' up and down the board. Nose riding requires the surfer to take a walk, not just plant his/her feet in one spot. l have never heard about it being easier to ''swim'' with. l try avoid 'swimming' while surfing.paddle; ride; paddle; ride..

The two top contributers were correct. It is primary design was to help with walking on the board.

Yup, cross stepping. l use an ankle leash on my long board but also cross step so my leash does not get in the way (at least most of the time).
