l surf on the east coast. l surf at wrightsville beach NC & they have some great waves during the winter & when a nice south swell comes. l know the outer banks, mostly at kittyhawk NC has great waves as well in the winter. they r like monsters. those r the 2 best places in north america that l have surfed at. but dont get me wrong, l have surfed other places too but the particular day that l went the waves just didnt really compare to what l have been surfing so those r just the 2 beaches l have been to on great days so they r my favorite.

l am an east coast surfer, born and bred. The Outer banks of N. Carolina, Montauk Point NY and most of New Jersey in the winter are all great surf spots. But, l have to admit, when it comes to consistency, comfortable surfing weather and the two combined, to equal surf-able days, southern California still is the best in North America. However, on any given day, Wrightsville Beach NC, Sebastian Inlet FL or Sea Isle City NJ can be just as good.

I've surfed all over California.

The further down south u go, the better. San Diego is the best you're gonna get in California year round. l live in Santa Barbara 5 hours up north, colder water, & we really only get consistent swell in winter, although if u travel u can surf pretty much year round.

North America though, Mexico, although there have been some reported 'criminal' issues recently involving surfers in California.

Just remember this:

On the west coast of N.A - the further south = better waves, warmer water. Eventually the further south u go the less crowded (past San Diego, Mexico & down the crowd factor decreases significantly).

There is no one place that has ''the best waves for surfing''
There a millions & millions of places all over the world that can have perfect waves when the conditions r right. It is just that some places have the right conditions more often than others.

l moved from Australia to England a few years ago & thought my surfing days would be over, but I've had plenty of good surf here. It is just a matter of watching the weather maps closely & getting some knowledge of what conditions r best for the local spots. l am going on a surf trip Ireland next month. That place gets some unbelievable surf.

Any bit of coast that is on a big ocean will be capable of producing quality surf. It is just a matter of searching, observing & waiting..

Cape Hatters and Kitty Hawk if you are on the East Coast, great variety of waves. Plus, we get some sweet hurricane waters.
