hi, im gonna be going to a surf camp that is around$275 and i've never surfed before, my mom doesnt want me to go to surfing lessons because she says l wont learn very much and its like$25 per hour. so im just looking for some comfort and some assurance.

l think it would defintely be an interesting & learning experience, esp if u havnt tried it before.

why dont u try it out with a cheaper teacher first, see if u actually like it , then go for the more expensive one?

your moms prob right..i think at a surfing camp they will prob have a better chance of teaching you something bc there are a lot of kids, so l guess it will be like a class..personally. take you moms advice because when l was little, my mom found me a teacher and he took me out into the water and forgot about me and went to go surf with his friends..it was so humiliating.so l ended up teaching myself how to surf and it was hard.so def go to the camp

l am not really sure what u r asking. So, l will try to adress a couple of the issues u brought up.

First, a week long surf school or camp is a great way to get started, especially for somebody ur age. The instructors will work on teaching u all of the 'basics', & there will be other noobies around, so when u goof up a little, all of the atttention wo not be on you.

You can learn a lot during one hour lessons, too. But for a real beginner, l think the week long program should be more fun, & more beneficial.

l started to surf when l was 13 or 14. That was back in 1966, & that was around the same age when most of my pals started to surf. Once upon a time, little guys did not surf (nor did Moms & Dads, like they do now). l had an advantage, because l had been swimming in the ocean & back bays since l was in first grade, so l as an old hand at body surfing & body boarding (no boogie boards back). But, we did not have the advantage of lessons. We all learned on our own, & from older guys who were nice enough to teach us things, so it took us a longer time to catch on in some cases. Some guys NEVER got very good, & some guys lost interest in surfing & some guys, like me, r still doing it at age 56.
Go ahead & go to the surf camp. It will be fun, & u may just learn a few things. Remember, surfing is supposed to be FUN.

once u start, you wo not wanna stop. surfing is something u can not learn by watching, but by trying so u have to make the decision. l think you will love it. l did.

You could save a whole lot of money by buying a book for $10-20 and find some friends that know know to surf or are willing to learn. On top the cost, you're going to have to purchase a board if you want to continue surfing.
