Everytime l surf for a few hours or an hour a day for a few days, l get these blisters on my thumb joint and palm on the thumb side from gripping the board in rough waves so l dont lose it. Ive tried just putting my hands flat on the top of the board but when the waves are strong this doesnt work...any tips??

l had this problem last year l bought some surf gloves for about £20 they solved the situation.

well normally u dont put ur hands on the sides of the board unless u r duck diving or going to stand up.

when the waves get to big for me l just bail & dive under the wave if u have a foot leash then u wont loose ur board.

in saying that after u have surfed 4 a while ur hands will tuffen up & not blister.
ot like the other said buy some gloves but they look abit gay.

or buy some water proof pads like big band aids & they will work fine

Learn how to duck dive (shortboards) or turtle roll (longboards) so you do not get knocked around so much.

Once you get past the breakers you should be good, just sin on the board and face outside.

just turtle roll or duck dive and thats the only time besides getting up that you should have to grip the board hard enough to get blisters
