So l was thinking of heading out at 6:00, and l was wondering what temperatures are considered to be safe to surf w/out a wetsuit..l do not know how to read surf line, or surf report.. should l just head out into the water and go for it?

wet suits r for coldish to freezing (not ice) water, if u r surfing at 6:00 l recon it would be pretty cold so if l were u l would wear a wetsuit, it will keep u warm all day. If u live near the beach go & have a look first but if u dont, check the weather report & look at the winds & stuff. If u r luck u can google (wherever u surf) surf report . You will have fun no matter what size the swell is, unless it is dead flat, but that is very unlikely if u r going to a surf beach.

There is no possible way to give you a legitimate answer if we do not know where you are surfing. Alaska? Brazil? Redondo Beach? Also, by the time you get these , tomorrow will have come and gone.

Here is Surfline for LA:

The tide chart is to the left underneath the camera. Best time to go is mid tide. Get familiar with this site, it is a great source of information.

If you are a beginner and the water is under 65-60F you will want a wetsuit.

depends on where youre surfing. if you are surfing in california, you probably want a wet suit. but l cant tell you good info if you dont tell where youre surfing

Generally if the water temp is 65 or below l would consider a wetsuit. It also depends how much fat u have.

If u r surfing in the early mornings, the AIR temp is iust as important. If the water is warm but the air temp is cold u may be uncomfortable.

Some people can endure the cold air temp early in the morning & wait for the sun to come out later. l would rather be comfortable & wear a wetsuit early & do not mind being a little toasty later.

I'd rather the water & air temp be just right if l am not going to wear a wetsuit. l always bring my wetsuit anyway.
