I am about to take up surfing and was just wondering if anyone knows about M8R8 surfboards? They're really cheap on Ebay, about $200 for a mini mal.Do you think this would be a good enough board to learn on?

If u r about to take up surfing DO NOT BUY A SURFBOARD ON E-BAY!! You do not know anything near enough about the sport to not get ripped off.

Surfing is an ocean sport. before u decide to surf, decide to know & understand the ocean. Learn to be at home with its currents, rips, undertows & sometimes BIG waves. The original surfers were watermen (and women, both men & women surfed, but certain waves were reserved for royalty). l do not just mean being good at swimming in a pool, the ocean can be very unforgiving. l have seen lots of really good pool swimmers have to get rescued. You have to learn surf etiquette (so the experienced surfers in the line up do not want to drown you), how to paddle & take off on a wave, & how to ride a wave.

Lessons r usually the best way to start, unless u r an adolescent or young adult with lots of pals who surf who can teach you. Go to a real surf shop. The folks there can hook u up with lessons. They will even rent u a board to leran on. Do not buy a board until u r sure u really want to keep surfing.

Bottom line is GO TO A SURF SHOP, not a computer. l have been surfing since 1966, & l still get my advice & information from industry professionals at the shops where l surf.

Some things about these boards:

They are made over seas.
They are not hand shaped
They are over priced
They wo not work as good as an american shaped board


Although these boards look cool and are a good price online l would not suggest it. For $200-$300 you can get a good used board that is a brand name. Support your local shaper and buy from him.
