MY WHOLE LIFE l HAVE BEEN INTRESTED IN SURFING

l MOVED TO CHICAGO FROM HAWAIl WHEN l WAS 4,
SO l NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO LEARN HOW TO SURF

NOW, l THINK THAT BEING A SPONSERED SURFER
WOULD BE THE COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD,
BUT IM PRETTY SURE THAT ISNT GOING TO HAPPEN,
BECAUSE l HAVE A FEELING ITS KIND OF ALONG THE
SAME LINES OF SAYING
''l WANT TO BE A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER
SOMETHING VERY FEW PEOPLE GET THE CHANCE TO DO ...

SO l THINK IT WOULD BE THE NEXT BEST THING TO
EITHER PROFESSIONALLY SHOOT PICTURES OF SURFERS
OR TO WORK FOR A MAJOR SURF MAGAZINE,
BUT AS FAR AS THE MAGAZINE PART,
HOW EXACTLY DO l GO ABOUT LOOKING INTO THAT ?

well, id like to retire and be a millionaire, but.. have you ever shot pics in the ocean ? if not, l dont think a major surf mag will hire you, if you have, and have a decent portfolio contact a mag and see what they have to offer.

l want to be a sponcerd surfer witch l probibly could if l had a video camera to make a sponcer me video. but if l dont make it in the surfing deal. l still would want to be apart of surfing. so my story is like yours but l live in californa.

l got my first sponsor when l was 12

but yahh its fun, but it is not as easy as ppl think

its a lot of work trying to impress ur sponsors

im 15 now

and it seems like my whole life is contests

l got my first sponsor by making a sponsor me video, like colton a said

pay someone or have ur family shoot ur surfing

go in a couple contests

maybe nssa & get ur namee out there

then soon enough u will have someone ask u if you're interested in a sponsorship

its really a neat experience

just practice ur a s s off

and just have fun!

Go to surfline.com & then find the WhoKnows? section. There r several good commentaries & becoming a surf photographer. Basically just get out there & shoot. l helps to have some knowledge of the sport because it will allow u anticipate ur shots better & of course some knowledge of photography so u know how ur equipment works & how to set it for the lighting, conditions, etc.

l shoot for fun using a fairly basic non-SLR digital camera & have been able to turn out some pretty good stuff.
