Talk to your local surfshops and your local surfing associations they can tell you when where they are. Also local surfing mags (better source than the international ones, plus they are FREE) frequently list regional results, upcoming dates and in many places the contests are annual.

Depending on the contest, for the smaller ones u can pretty much just sign up & show up. For small ones (since you're asking, l assume you're not going to be competing too seriously) there is usually just a form u fill out & an entry fee (can be anywhere from 10-100$) & either mail it in or drop it off, & just show up on the day of the contest. The local surf shops would have the forms, just ask them about any upcoming contests. Or, as a member of the ESA, l recieve newsletters & contest forms in the mail.

Most contests are part of, or held by an organization (NSSA, ESA, Surfing America ect.) You either have to be a registered member, or pay a entry fee. Local contests are good fun, cost less or are possibly free.
