l surf and im a junior life guard and im in the water alllllll the time so simply staying out of the ocean is not an option
also ear plugs make me have tunnel vision

You mean when you get water stuck in your ear? Deal with it. If you hearing feels clogged (similar to what it feels like on an airplane) do a fake yawn (maybe a real one, if you have too). And if you feel water in your ear, just shake your heard sideways in your ear is direction until you feel the water come out.

If you're talking about an ear infection, ask a doctor or some other professional guy who looks at that.

No it is not just getting water in your ear! It when the ear gets so much cold water in it on repeated occasions, then the bone, (or something in there) starts to grow over to protect the ear and it can require an operation.

As far as l know earplugs are the only way to prevent it, but if that makes you feel funny then l don;t know.some people use blu-tak, to save buying earplugs, or maybe so they do not fall out but that would probably have the same effect.

Take a shower when you get homeand then Blow dry your ear dry after to take a shower. Do not use Q-tips because they damage your ears.
Surfer ear is pretty common. l get it all the time and it is nothing to freak out about. It will usually go away on its own but it is still buggin you in a couple of days go to the doctor and he will give you some drops and med to clear up your ear.

l know you do not want ear plugs but unless you want to wear a hood all the time that is what you need to be looking for. That or move to somewhere with warm water.

you need earplugs with tiny holes in them so air can move in and out but not water.

l used to use Doc is pro plugs but now just use a hood since the water is so cold here anyway.

there is much you can do. the ear plugs do not really work and some times they just mess up you're ear drum do not waste you're money. Just try to avoid super cold water and when you're surfing try to face straight into the wind so it is not blowing directly on the ear.

There r some good ''over the counter'' ear plugs available. You might want to try them first. However, if they do not answer ur problem, u really need to consult an ear, Nose & Throat specialist (Physician).

l was also in a situation where staying out of the water was not an option, & l ended up destroying on of my ear drums. That was almost 40 years ago. l have not been able to scuba dive since. various doctors have tried over the years to fix things, without any success. l sometimes use ear plugs when l surf, but one big wipe out will blow them right out. l have had years of chronic ear infections, pain & discomfort.

Do yourself a favor. If u start to have ear trouble, go to a doctor, not an on-line Q & A site. It is well worth it. Good luck.

l know this is going to sound insane but l surf in Scotland where it is cold most of the time, instead of using ear plugs l use bluetac (the stuff you stick pictures to walls with) it works much better than ear plugs, trust me.

If you are asking about surfers ear which you get from being in cold water too much where the bone in your ear starts growing. Then you need doc pro plugs they are ear plugs that trap warm air into your ear. They also have a vent so you can hear and they adjust with how deep you go.
