The best thing u can do is go to a local surf shop. If u can, get lessons & then advance to getting ur first board (lessons will give u a good idea of the sport & if u actually want to continue it, & ur instructor can help u get ur first board). In absence of that, the best thing to do is get the advice of a local surf shop, they know the local waves best & can better assert what type of board is right for you. To find a local shop, either go near the beach & look around, or search yellowpages.com for surf shop.

l googled it. l am not sure where Brick is but if you go to the beach and find a surf shop you can rent a board and get lessons from them. l would not suggest paddling out alone when your learning. l had my brother pushing me into waves before l was able to paddle on my own.

Practice with someone who knows how to surf or take lessons.
