The New Jersey Shore has some of the best surfing on the Eastern seaboard. It’s a place where surfers can catch a lot of good waves & have a great time.

During the summer months, surfing in New Jersey can be quite enjoyable, despite New Jersey is beach going crowds. Surfers frequent many shore towns such as Manasquan, Cape May & Ocean City. Even though surfers spend most of their time in the water, in order to access those ocean waves, they r still required to purchase a daily or seasonal beach badge.

Surfing the New Jersey Shore

Prime surf season in New Jersey occurs during the Fall months. You wo not have to worry about summer crowds; u will have a lot of freedom to surf the waves. The air will be a bit colder than in the summer, obviously, but the ocean temperatures usually remain warm through October. During the Fall, surfing conditions at the New Jersey Shore r at their best due to the peak of the hurricane season, which increases ocean swells.

In the Winter months, ocean temperatures can restrict surfing in New Jersey. A warm fullsuit with booties, gloves & a hood r key to prolonging a surfer is time in the frigid water. The surf is usually satisfactory; the result of winter storms & the beaches will be deserted.

In the Spring the winter fullsuits r still a must to keep warm. The water gradually warms up as the summer months approach and, slowly, the beaches & oceans will become more crowded. The New Jersey beach crowds should then increase & surfers can ’shore up’ for another great season of surfing.

lbi has sandbars running all along the ocean side of the island. alot of the got screwed up the other summer by beach replenishment though. also online is not the best place to ask for a good spot because its not cool to post spots online. do u own local research & find ur own spots. obviously there r spots that everyone knows about, & those will always be crowded & easy to find by asking any local shop. if u want something a little better the only way to find it is the old fashion way: good old trial & error with a little help from google earth to see where a nice point or inlet may be.

It really depends on the swell direction. Good waves are good waves. The best way to find good surf is to have knowledge of the swell direction, which way the wind is blowing, and some luck. Study and find the spots u like. Try OC is North side if your looking for size.

If u r a surfer, u will find waves in New Jersey. The summer can be kind of fickle, but there r usually rideable waves somewhere within driving distance. Autumn is better & winter is awesome (but really cold). l know that there r some good breaks along LBI, but l favor it further south ( l have not surfed LB l since '67). Atlantic City (casinos & all) has some great breaks. l like the vibes best in Atlantic & Cape May counties, but unfortunately, most beaches with rideable surf have beach access fees ( l know it sucks, but it is a fact of life in South Jersey). Stop in any surf shop (real surf shop, not bathing suit store) & the folks there will help u find a good break.
