ok l wanna join the surf team next year but l dont kno how to surf. is it possible that l could learn in just 3 months. and is it better to start out on a long or short board?

If you put your mind to it you definitely can!
just do not give up and you will do good

start out on a long board. they are easier to balance on and stand up on. and if you really aply yourself, you can do it. just practice!

The fastest way to learn is to start out in a beach that is adecuate for starters & as u get better, u pass to the next level in dificulty. If there is no surf school in ur town (they got lots of gear like soft longboards etc) or do not want to spend that much money, start buying an used Longboard or Fun Board (it is better to start with a second hand board because you're going to dent it a lot), but take along someone with some knowledge so they do not rip u off with an old heavy useless board.

Remember: The lighter the board the better it will transmit the upward force from the wave, resulting in a better teaching tool for yourself.

Three months is more than enough to learn, but go at it every chance u have, mornings, afternoons & sunsets. This is not only a great sport but a lifetime passion & a wonderfull way of living in contact with nature.

Yes it is possible.. l learned how to surf really good in just one day.. and defintly start of with a longboard!!! They work really well for beginners

You can actually learn in a few days ( l did).

Well, u can not start surfing on a short-board. They take a lot of experience & for someone trying to learn u want to stay away from them. If u get a short-board ur gonna hate life for awhile.

Get a long-board for sure. You will learn how to paddle, pop-up, & ur stance much more easily. l would go down to the local surf shop, pick up a decent looking used longboard (around 8-9 foot), & haggle a bit with the shop keeps for the price. Make sure u get a legit hard-top board, soft-top boards barely catch waves & break easy (they're cheap).

Try to wax the deck like really hard so when you're out in the water u do not fly off ur board (sticky bumps is best wax). Also make sure to get the right wax for the right water temperature.

Tropical Wax - 68-70 + degree water
Cool Wax - 60-68 degree water
Cold Wax - 59-50 - degree water

The real question is can l learn how surf good enough for a team in 3 months & the answer is totally. You just gotta keep at it & find a friend who surfs so they can show u the basics of catching a wave. Screw training camps, u gotta get out there & surf!

First of all, you're really lucky that there is a surf team where u live, cause l live in THE MOST F up country in the world : Italy.People do not even know what surf is!
Anyway, l picked up surfing last summer & l have to say that it is the best sport ever ( in my opinion ),it is so fun,and l stood up on the first wave & dide not really have a difficult time at all & l was 13 so, l know it all dipends you're strength & ecc,but if u start with the wright longboard(it is easier to ketch waves with,espescially on a small day), & u train paddling (in the water,not on the beach,pretending with the board set down) & be conscious of how u position yourself ecc ,you will learn in no time!
