go to the beach and you will find surfers there they will teach you

You can always find a surf school in the area. Here in San Diego we have several. Just do a quick search. At a minimum there is always some guy with a van teaching a handful of people in most beach areas. We have a great surf school for women out here called Surf Divas but l do not know if they have anything like that in Florida.

Definitely take a lesson & at a minimum learn the culture & etiquette of surfing. That will go a long way in insuring u have fun & do not stab any innocent bystanders with the tip of ur board.

Well, if you live on the East Coast, and far enough north to get more than a couple days of waves a year, get yourself to a real surf shop (not a bathing suit store that sells surfboards). Somebody there will help get you into the water. Go for it!
