l never set foot on a surf board but l really one to. l skateboard almost every day, especially with my longboard. I am told skateboarding and surfing are the same, then others say its totally different. l need to know if l should buy a longboard or a short board for surfing.

Good idea. Olympix family sports at stadiums has a lot
of jamming good skateboarding, & the latest in luge,
bobsled, skis, snoboards. Their regulars r those people
with 6 foot boards for fun & 7 foot boards for serious
handle. There is no problem with using shorter boards to
start with & wakeboarders use a board called winks,
& skips that r often round for getting a feel of the days
wash. Go in on 5-20 foot waves with staying about
25 yards out to gain more time in the curl. Floaters is okay
though long controlled rides thru the curls is best. Eat lite
& drink lots of koolaid.

Get a gun. They are about 8 or 9 feet they are made for tall guys. They are good to learn on because they are easier to control.

When you start changing around with a single fin and all it too starts to mess with control in your board. It was easier learning on a long board (or gun) then going to short, once mastered.

You can always get way good deals on craigslist.org because it is a sport that requires practice. Most don’t have patients.

go for a long board first, it is nice and smooth, and easier for beginners. I'd recommend some lessons, that way if something goes wrong, there will be someone there to help you. Also, unless you have a thick wet suit, I'd wait for spring to start surfing.

Read the already answered questions. This questions gets asked every week. The guys who said to buy a gun is either a kook or is trying to set you up. Guns are for big wave surfing.

a 61/2 ft long board would be nice other wise for tricks l think a 5-6 footer is good for you

If you never have surfed before, GET A LONGBOARD!! You will eventually get better in ballance and stuff. then you should get a shortboard.
