Since there has been lots of storms coming into the Pacific Northwest lately, the latest hot spot has been Half Moon Bay or Mavericks. The wave the past few days have been pumping.

California is a big state, bro!
There is lot of great surf up & down the coast all year round. Just depends on the direction of the swells & direction the beach faces.
Right now it is winter here so u want to go to beaches with a N to NW exposure. South facing breaks, (like Malibu), only have waves in the summer, (when it is winter in the Southern hemisphere).
This guy named 'Franko' has some great surf maps for California that give the swell direction, best tide, etc for all the breaks. l got mine here:

San Clemente today is sunny, with knee to waist high with 57 degree water. Not too exciting but nice out, maybe some offshores later.
