Whats the difference between funboards and hybrid surfboards?

A funboard is made out of foam and not a real surfboard. It is uesd for beginners who are learning to surf. It is lighter weight, floatability, and shape make them easier for novices to learn the basics like paddling and catching waves.

A hybrid board is a real surfboard that gives the advantages of a larger board-stability and wave catching while also being able to do more advanced surfing techniques like aerials on a shortboard.

Hi there, seems to me a fun board is a board shaped for the beginning surfer who has learned the basic mechanics of surfing & want is somthing better. The funboard isnt vary good at paddeling, turning, generating speed or quick loose transisions. it is what its designed to be a little fun in every aspect. but not vary good at any one thing. Now a hybrid surfboard is just a popular current (say the Al Merric M13)shape made with alternative materials to be lighter, stronger & last longer as once u find that perfect board u want it to last for ever. its ur go to board. no matter what.

Funboards r made to learn on. They r larger & have more volume but lack the maneuverability of either a short board or longboard, unless u had a really good shaper. Funboards can be made of the same materials as any other performance surfboard.

Hybrids r performance boards that have their shape tweaked to add some performance characteristic. This usually results in losing some other performance characteristic. A good example of a hybrid would be a rocket fish. l traditional short board that has been widened at the front, the rocker flattened & a small swallow tail added. These boards r designed for speed in small surf but lose their advantage when the surf gets larger.
