l asked your advice the other day about a bet that involved my 15-year-old son and one of his classmates (if she climbed a water tower, she could kick him in the balls...if she “chickened out,'' she would give him a sexual favor). As l wrote, she did fulfill her end of the bargain (she climbed the tower), and l did discipline my son quite severely.

My question and your advice focused on whether l should intervene to prevent the kick (scheduled to happen today), or stay out of it and let him get kicked. Most advice encouraged me to stay out of it, and that’s what l thought was best, too. l told him there are consequences to his actions and told him to report to school today and then to wherever the kick would take place.

Long story short: She followed through with the kick, and he came home walking gingerly. Sore balls and all that. He said she didn’t kick very hard, but that it still hurt. l got him ice for his balls and told him to think twice before he makes another stupid bet.

I’m now feeling a little guilty, for letting him get kicked in the balls (albeit not hard). Maybe l shouldn’t feel guilty. l don’t know. What would you be thinking, and how would you feel?

Dont feel guilty he lost a bet he has 2 take the good with the bad. its a good bet eventually he will find something she wont do and he will be laughing. he might needs 2 find a higher tower.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger. However, he needs a quick class in risk/benefit analysis. Let is look at the other side of the bet. Having raised both a son and a daughter, l think there is a potentially very angry Dad out there somewhere. As much as your son would learn from the kick, the parents of the other half of this bet should be in on the ''action''
