for you, that seems like a perfect size board. just make sure it is thick enough and you buy it from a surf shop. always buy your boards in person. they can get seriously damaged when you get them online. and make sure it is not a pop out. john f has a good list of pop out boards so if he posts it then you can look and see if that brand is a pop out. so yeah that sounds like a good size board. hope this helps. have fun surfing.

Sounds perfect, l have a 7'5'' funboard and l am 5'11'' and 175 and its perfect. Have fun on it, and be careful if you take it on a plane anytime, they will beat the heck out of it.

wait, your a beginner? If that is the case, try getting a little bit of a longer board, even though this one is just about the right size. l learned on a 8 footer. Its easier to balance on a longer one when your just starting out. Some brands are:

It sounds about right for you. Now let me give u my usual 'sermon'. First of all, surfing is for competent ocean swimmers, so get those skills down first, Lessons (either from a professional instructor or pals who surf) is the best way to start. And whatever u do, do not buy a popout. take the time to read the links. l have been surfing for 42 years. Take my advice, & go to a real surf shop. There r lots of 'real' surfboards out there that r affordable. Take the time to learn the 'right' way, & l hope u have as much fun l have had.

Every board that We Will Rock You recommended r popouts manufactured in Chinese Sweatshops. Do not buy one, unless it is absolutely positively the only way u will be able to surf.

You have a long time before u go surfing next summer. Save ur money & buy a real surfboard from a good surf shop. At a surf shop they will help u find a board that matches ur size, skill level, local waves (Long Island, NY?) & ur budget. There is nothing wrong with starting out on a used board.

Costco sells a good board. Also do not listen to one of the other people who answered. NSP boards are really bad.

You want a board that is at least 9 feet long. It makes it easy for you to catch every wave you attempt. Anything less will have you paddling furiously and missing 80% of the waves. Which will leave you frustrated..
