how much does a shortboard cost on average (ripcurl brand or rusty)

It depends what it is made of. An epoxy board, surftech board, etc., are going to cost you (on average) about 2/3 more than a regular PU board. Most PU boards are around 400-650$. But l bought a Rusty Surftech board for nearly 800$. So expect to spend anywhere from 400-800$ on a shortboard. Of course, l am speaking of performance shortboards, not fishes or old school boards, etc.

Depending on quality, brand, length, and use, a board can run from $300 to $1500

300-1000 depending on the size/shape/brand & retailer. going direct to the shaper is cheaper. And u will pay a premium for ripcurl or rusty boards. but u r paying for a name. They r mostly pre-fab mass produced boards. Custom shapes direct from the shapers r BETTER boards & typically cost less.

Dont know where u live, but in San Clemente alone there is like 20 different shapers. All of them r decent, some r great. Lost, Terry Senate, Patterson, Stewart to name a few.

If u have been surfing for a while, u probably have a good idea of what u r looking for. If u r just starting, then after taking lessons(!) start to think about buying a board, but not until u r sure u r really into surfing. Surfboards r expensive. But remember, u do not need to buy a new one, there r always good used boards for sale. Do not get hung up on 'brand names' there r lots of good local shapers who made great boards. A decent, new surfboard can cost anywhere from $300.00 to $1,000.00 US, depending on what u r looking for. Of course used boards will be cheaper.

Although l am sure u will get lots of ''advice'' the real BEST ANSWER is to go to a good local surf shop & discuss ur skill level, ur size & local wave conditions with the folks there. they will give u much better info than ANYBODY out here in cyberspace. You should really think about buying a decent board, & avoiding popouts, & boards made in sweat shops in China, unless that is just all u can afford. After 42 years of surfing, l still get my surfboard buying advice at good local shops in the places where l surf.
