Wow, that is a long trip. For something that long l would go somewhere like central america. Sure it is not as exotic as going feral in Indo for 5 months but l am not sure l am not sure l would want to put my health at risk spending that much time over there. Encephalitis sucks!!

With that much time, your guaranteed to score anywhere you go! Just go to a safe country that is not too expensive and enjoy life! Really just research those places like on Surfline and choose the one that is active the most when you go. (Like the place most active in winter/spring).

howszit, thats a long surf trip.
l suggest checking out North Shore, Hawaii.
l live here on North shore and l know the ocean here, the waves are great. l would suggest coming in more of the spring, thats when the surf is up around here.
but check out tons of other places if your on a trip for that long.
aloha

All depends how adventurous u are!

South America; Peru, Chile & Brazil r obvious ones, but Uruguay is rumoured to have empty gold in December.

In Europe, Ireland is the best. Freeeeezing cold water, but some of the best waves in Europe.
France & Spain is great if u want to incorporate culture into ur trip, but still very crowded & pretty cold.
Portugal, home of supertubos, has some great waves. Crowded, but not as cold as other places in Europe.
Galopagas has epic setups, but generally pretty fickle.

Morroco, home of the right hand point. Works from December-April. Perfect if u want uncrowded right handers with semi warm water!
The rest of the west coast of Africa is pretty windy & fickle, if u really want to u could explore, but l would not bother.
South Africa has the crowded famous waves like Jeffreys bay & Cave rock but get off the track & u will find empty, quality beach breaks.
Mozambique has righthand points that rival the Superbank, but has the highest concentration of tiger sharks in the world, same with Madagascar. Go if u feel brave!

Reunion island has St leu, but is generally crowded (you can thank the ASP for that!).

Maldives is an amazing place, but very expensive. No exploration here, you're not aloud into the country unless you're staying at a resort or on a charter! Up north has some great spots that r semi crowded. Pretty much a paradise.
Down south is harder to get to, but home to uncrowded gold. Charters r bit more expensive cause of this.

Indo has the best surf in the world. Fact.
Bali has the crowded perfect spots like Padang Padang & Uluwatu. Not very safe at the moment, I'd try avoid here.
Java has G-Land, perfect lefthander. Cheap but getting more crowded.
Mentawaiis has the perfect surf. The main spots like HT is r crowded but get a good charter & u will get the goods.
Nias is epic. Garunteed u will score lagundri & bawa if u have the balls!
All of Indo has warm water & works its best from June-October

Australia is pretty crowded at the main spots, but work a bit harder to find spots & u will find some great waves. The culture in Australia away from the cities is great with shit loads of things to do.

Fiji, Samoa, Tonga all have similar waves with similar cultures with Fiji being the most crowded (which still is not very crowded.). Very warm water & cheap. Not as cheap as Indo, but still cheaper than Australia.

Caroline Islands looks amazing. The same as all the other pacific islands but works from March-April

Hawaii, to me, is an overrated crowded place full of locals who hate ya for no reason. The waves r good, but there r better waves in the world.

Hope l helped!
