Hi.
I've been surfing for about a year now on a 7' and 6'8'' fun board. It is been an easy transition for me from an 8' long board, but now l have to decide which board to buy:

6'6'' Squash Tail
18.75'' width
2 3/8'' thick

or

6'3'' baby swallow tail
19.25'' width
2.25'' thickness

The area l live in have small waves, about 3'-5'' waves. Please help me choose which board l should best buy depending on the location l live, not on how short the board is.

id go with the swallow tail based on the information u have given since its a little wide with more volume in the tail it will help on smaller, mushier waves. its hard to say exactly which board to buy because there r so many more variables then the basic dimensions & height of the wave. a good general guideline is go with a wider board with a fuller outline & stout tail in mushier waves & go with a longer thiner shape for steep waves. the same hold for rocker, flatter for mush, more extreme for the steep stuff to fit the face of the wave better. good luck & keep at it

There is no ''one size fits all'' in surfing. We do not know anything about where you surf, or how good you are. GO TO A SURF SHOP, not a computer. The pros there will help match your size, skill level, local wave conditions to the exact right board. After 42 years of surfing, l get my board advice at the good local shops where l surf.

D S, John makes valid points u have to consider & benefit from. But stay away from the hottie salesman just trying to earn their commission. If u could not be in a hurry u could ask every shop owner what they suggested, They should let u test drive even a few different ones. Thank them after ur session & then ask to see where his boards r shaped & glassed & go there & watch & meet who is doing the work. Then & only then make ur decision based on who u met that impressed u & who's' board had all the right stuff to meet & exceed the needs ur abilities can grow with, then pick the shop & shaper YOU want to do YOUR board.

Go to a surf shop in your area. They will make a lot better of a choice for you than us. They know where you surf and the conditions.
