I am searching for a place to take a surf trip. I've been considering Puerto Rico, Peru, and Chile. Just looking for anywhere that has good waves around 3-8ft. l will be taking my trip in Feb. 2008. Any recommendations? Is Puerto Rico pricey?

Short Board - Age 21 - CA

Looking for anywhere except for the United States and Costa Rica.

Puerto Rico is not pricey. It is also part of the US so you do not have to worry about exchange rates and stuff. Tons of info on line about the breaks. It also happens to be better in the winter.

Rincon maybe in PR (http://youtube.com/watch?v=1Y8CvPW76LQ) . l think peru has a good winter swell, & the longest break in the world, & machu peechu (forgive my spelling please & see Peel a Wes Brown film). But I'd imagine Peru is a little more dangerous. PR on the other hand is a commonwealth of the United States, u can use our dollar, & I've actually bee there & can say its a pretty fun place. Chile l do not much about but u can snowboard down there as well as surf if ur into doing both on the same trip. Keep in mind that with both Peru & Chile ur gonna need a guide to find the breaks because there is so much coast line & its not like southern california where everyone & there mom knows where the waves will be.

Like the other posters, l have not been to Peru or Chile. It would seem that they would have potential for bigger & more consistent waves. When l was in PR (Rincon), we did not quite get skunked, but the waves were not epic. Nonetheless, even at chest to head, places like Domes & Maria is have more than their share of multi-section point break lines that r a lot of fun. The water is warm year-round, no need to exchange currency & the cost is pretty good.

Here is another video of various places from primarily the Northern side of PR- http://youtube.com/watch?v=2YC_WBvmY3k.

So PR is good, but there is a chance (aside from not having to deal with a wetsuit) u wo not score much better than u would at a nice day at Trestles.
