Hi Everybody!
l am here in Los Angeles for six weeks and would like to learn to surf.
Could you help me out with information on what kind of board l should buy and inexpensive beginners lessons in surfing?

ps: l already read an introduction on surfing and saw dvds...

buy some dvds and read books about surfing.try lessons but it might be expensive and a little boring. thats all l got.

Do not ''buy'' anything. Contact the Surf Academy today. You can get lessons close to you immediately and they will provide everything you need to start with. They can also recommend what you need to buy when you are ready to purchase something.

Check out my Bros below, they will set you up with a 2 hr lesson, about $45 and take the 1st hour to teach you the basics and then get you out on 2 diff boards to practice and get the feel for what style and size board may be best for you to try out. Good Luck and have Fun!

If you're only there for 6 weeks l would not invest in something expensive. Take a lesson to get a feel for it and maybe check craigslist for a cheap used board that you could unload before you leave.

6 weeks is not very long. It takes a good long time to really learn how to surf, unless you are really not doing anything while you're there and can surf every day.

do what we used to do before lessons were available
grab a cheap board from a surf shop (ask owner about size etc) & get into the water (a legrope will help but u should be a competent swimmer)
learn the basic skills such as paddling & watch other surfers (this is best done in the whitewash)
remember when u do make it out the back number one rule is dont drop in & use ur common sense when paddling out to stay out of impact zone
if ur tentative sit on the beach & watch for a while (the buzz will get you) & ask people questions
most surfers r friendly people when not in the water hassling for waves

your in cali you can surf at almost any beach l nevre been thair but there should be surfing instructors or surfing classes they range from 60 to150 dollars here in fl it should be the same

It can not be learned in 6 weeks. l have been at it for 20 years and am still learning.


Surfing is not for everyone.
