Yes, you definatly can surf there. l dont know where you will be staying so heres a website that lists all known surf spots, and has descriptions of the spots, and how to get there.

that is real aggressive surf cold water like 52 break next to cliffs not for beginner's

look for areas where the waves are breaking out away from the shore and are on the smaller side. In my opinion the choppy water is best to learn in. Also, stay away from rocks, cliffs, or piers. Try to find waves that are not barreling out ( surfers dream) you want to stay away from the crowd. Do not forget surf etiquette and to just have fun!
