your first answer needs to try a short board if she thinks a long-board is hard the best fish for everyday use is a quad it rips nice tight bottom turns good for carving and wide and thick east to catch small local surf so cal

If by ''postmodern tri fin'' you mean thruster then that is the way to go - and avoid using ''art'' terms for surf boards where possible.

Talk to your local board shops - mostly they are surfers and will let you know what are the best boards to be riding for your local conditions - all boards are designed for different waves and different conditions.

Cheers and keep surfin'

Definitely go with the fish. You have all the advantages of a longboard (easy to paddle & catch lots of wave) with the advantages of a shortboard (good maneuverability & easy to carry around). If u mainly surf smaller waves, a twin fin will suit u better. With one less fin in the water than the tri-fin/thruster, u have less resistance. This makes it easier to paddle & catch waves. Take a look at 9:Fish Surfboards (9fishsurf.com). All they do r fishes & have a bunch of different sizes. l have a few of their fishes & they're awesome.

l say definitely go with the tri fin. It is nice to have a retro board in your quiver, but l would not use it for everyday use. The progress that surfboard shapers and designers have made really have taken those little details of the surfboard shape to a new level. Older boards do not have those details that give today is boards that high performance edge.
