On vacation last week, l saw A Kid walking along the beach waiting for the waves to go out he'd then start running throw his board out and surf the water going out. He had a short,thin board made of wood. What exactly is this sport, and the name of the board??

Skim Boarding

The sport is called skimboarding, and the board is called a skimboard. No surprise there. Look it up on Wikipedia, they have a pretty detailed description of how it works.

That is definitely skimboarding. Difficult at first but a lot of fun once you get used to it.

Everyone is correct. Skimboarding, or sand sliding, or sand surfing.
The wooden ones are primarily to ''skim'' across the surface of flat water areas.

l believe it is a skim board from the way you are describing it. They sell them in most surf shops.

It is a skim board. They generally run $25-$80 or so, depending on where you buy them.

Basically it is just a 1/4'' thick piece of plywood that has been cut to a particular shape and painted with a design and if you want to try it out without much work you can make one yourself for about $10.
