Just wondering...Was surfing in huntington beach and saw a fin...didnt know if it was a shark or a dolphin but got pretty scared...Anyways, are there any sharks in Los angeles / orange county ? if yes do they attack ? are they dangerous ? How many attacks per year in this area ? Knowing all this would reassure me :P nik

hi nick, sure theres sharks in our ocean, u might hear of a bite maybe every other year, nope they are not out to bite intentionally, as for the fin it could hv been a dolphin or a small nurse shark ,very harmless, relax and swim , getting bitten is like u winning the lottery here, understand? l am a native of so cal mid 50s still body surf in OC and LA beaches, goodluck

Do not worry about sharks in HB. I've surfed the pier under the lights at nights and never even considered sharks. l do remember one time years back when l was out at Golden West and a lifeguard boat came in close making noise so they could move a shark out. l would not let shark phobia impact your surfing.
