From what I've seen, the west coast has bigger and better waves. But I've only seen the Atlantic from the shores of the Carolina is so. can not quite sum up the entire east coast. I'd go with west based on what I've seen, though.

That will be the west coast, thanks to California & Hawaii. Two years after applying for exclusive rights to use the title “Surf City USA,” Huntington Beach, California was granted three official trademarks from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office to use the moniker in advertisements & on beach paraphernalia. The title, however, did not go uncontested. Santa Cruz, Calif., located almost 400 miles north of Huntington Beach, filed an appeal to claim the title of “Surf City USA” for itself, but has yet to attain any legal support for its efforts. This feud between the two “Surf Cities” has been going on for several years now, & was only recently taken to the courts for resolution.

Here you can surf basically all year and the weather is not as extreme.

only people that have lived on both coasts can say. l live on the east coast & the outer banks r fairly consistent & can be perfect. due to the Continental shelf we do not have a mavericks or any giant wave spots. however we do get lots of hurricanes & it can get double over head with heavy hollow barrels if u know where to go. but Ive never been to the west coast, l assume they have flat spells just like every other spot in the world.. l would say its just a matter of opinion, & ill take a off shore hurricane wind with 75 degree water temps in Hatteras over west coast 60 degree water any day.

l think that overall the east coast wins, you can surf everywhere on the east coast. there are only a couple of surf spots in the west. Plus the sand and beaches are better in the east coast.

def west. l live on the east coast and after vacationing to Cali l will never get better surf then that. l always wanted to go to Hawaii there suppose to have good surf too. also Florida is not that bad its probably the best place on th East coast. but over all l would have to say west coast!

Do not listen to any of these clowns, the surf is best in Hawaii no contest but if you not in Hawaii the east coast is better. the best place you can surf on the east coast is New Jersey, trust me the surf sucks in Florida, Trust me l live in Huntington Beach, CA and the surf is better in Jersey. l would have to say west coast only because of Hawaii If any of these ppl knew anything they would know Jersey is better than California

it depends on what you like
west coast waves are more consistent. it is usually easier to find big waves on the west coast. but..
if you wait for waves on the east coast, they can be good. the outer banks can have some amazing waves as well and waves in new jersey, despite popular belief.

California is the most consistent, while Florida can get world class waves. My opinion is that California is the best because it has waves just as good as Florida and more often. But obviously this question is subject to personal opinions based on personal values. You might find someone who prefers lake Michigan to Rincon.

the east coast for bigger waves.. the west for more consistent. hawaii for the best
on the east coast, the waves go from smallest in the south (excluding Florida) and biggest in the north (like masachusettes area.. HUGE WAVES)..
but it gets cold up north so ehh..

The west coast has much bigger waves and gives you more of a tropical feeling. It is much better for advanced surfers. The East coast is better to learn on because the waves are smaller and not as dangerous. The West coast has a much longer surfing season, than the 3-4 month average season on the east.

West by far. You got Hawaii out west which has the best surf in the world. Hawaii has Pipe, Waimea, Makaha. Yokes, Sunset, Ali'i, Haleiwa, Kasier Bowls, Chuns Reef, V-Land, Turtle Bay, Sandy Beach, Makapuu, White Plains, Kewalo's, Kaena Point, & Ke'au Beach, Than u got Cali beaches like Mavericks, Newport, & Huntington. How r u going to compare that to the Atlantic ocean waves? Where r all the best surfers come from? The pacific ocean. The Irons brothers, Taj Burrow, Mick Fanning, Dustin Cuizon, Danny Wills, & legends like Sunny Garcia & Mark ''Occy'' Occhilupo r all from the pacific.
