This is a tough question since it depends on how well you surf and if you are having a custom board shaped. My guess is you will need a board 2 3/4'' to catch waves well.

2-3'' for sure, l am guessing you are pretty new, if you want a thinner board, jump up to a 9'0'' Board width is important too, dont go real skinny.
