l have been told that an epoxy longboard is the way to go for a beginner surfer.A local dealer told me that it would be $425 for a new one 7.5' - 9' board.Is this the best for a beginner and what brands are reputable for this price range?

Look for a local shaper. They will have an idea of the surf conditions in your area, and hopefully shape the board accordingly. That size sounds good. Price may be a little more.

K, so heres whats up the rest of these groms r just researching ur weight & height online & telling u what to get. this is what l recommend. first try it out & see if u like surfing at mellow point break. then if u really like it & plan to take it up then go on craigslist & buy a cheap long board such as a soft top around 7 feet or longer. Then u take that out surfing until u get pretty good at riding that board, then u can graduate to a better board, either short or long but by the time u get good at surfing that craigslist board u will have talked to enough people out in the water to gain the knowledge to choose ur own board. If u go out & buy one of those 500 to 600 dollar boards that these guys r telling u to buy u will just end up spending more money because u will tear that board to shreds running into people/ rocks.


epoxy boards r good too for beginners but u can still mess them up. lots of poeple dont like them either becuase they r way different than fiberglass boards. they have promade shapes & r really boyant.
