va beach has a lot of hostel locals and beginners that have no clue what they are doing. if your into that then first street jetty is the place for you..when there is a swell ( which isnt often) if thats not your style and you dont mind a 2 hour drive outer banks is where l go. more consistant and when its good its one of the best breaks there is anywhere.. but you gotta get south of nags head on to hatteras island.
