What is the youngest recommended age to learn how to surf

if you can swin and stand up you can surf

most people recommend waiting until 7 or 8. At that age, there is less apprehension about falling in to the water & more swimming experience (some schools require an ability to swim 50m in a pool prior to lessons). There are a couple of places that will work with younger kids, but an instructor is often on the board with the little ones.

There is really no age limit to when u can first learn how to surf. But before u learn how to surf, u must learn how to swim otherwise if u lose ur board u wo not drown. When l went to Hawaii l met some kids that were surfing around the ages from five to six. So l am guessing that is about the youngest age u can go, AFTER being educated about swimming.

A child should be able to swim, have some education in water safety, and always be accompanied by an adult in the water with a lifeguard on shore.

Because balance and coordination are a problem, most children begin with bodyboarding and work their way up to surfing. l would say whatever age your child seems physically and emotionally ready.

l dont think it should depend on age, l think if you feel comfartable with you child in the water then thats your desicion. My cousin was 4 and we put a life jacket on her. That how she learned to surf.

Its not age. its maturity of your child, and the way you feel about it.

l WAS PUT ON MY FIRST BOARD WHEN l WAS 4 AND l STARTED PUTTING MY OLDEST ON A BOARD AT THE SAME AGE BUT START WITH GREAT SWIMMING AND PUT THEM IN A POOL FIRST WITH THE BOARD ...THEN TAKE THEM OUT IN THE MORNING WHEN IT'S FLAT WITH A SMALL SHORE BREAK...START WITH PADDLING OUT AND U CAN DO THAT IN THE WATER OR ON SHORE JUST REMEMBER THE FINS WHEN YOUR ON THE SHORE.BEST OF LUCK ..NORTHSHORESURFERGIRL
