As for your second question. Here in Hawaii people of all ages come to learn how to surf when there on vacation. Theres nothin to be embarrased about, its just a time to have fun.

look in the back of the surfer and surfing mags. there should be a grip of camps and schools to hook up with. watch
the original endless summer movie and get a long board and have some fun. remember to respect the locals and be mellow and cool.
