Does anyone have tips on duck diving

l wish, l am trying to learn the same thing. Only here in Puerto Rico, we call it dog diving.. good luck with that.

yes they do but not me, its simple.

l push my foot on the tail of my board down and then the whole board is submerged and then l go under

basically l try to build as much momentum as possible before the wave reaches me and press the nose as far under the wave as possible while using my knees to sink the tail.then l try to kick to propel myself through the wave or white water, l do not know if this is correct but it helps, practice makes perfect and it will help make surfing more enjoyable

Basically, ''skulls66'' answer is pretty close to the only way to duck dive. 1) Attack the wave coming at you, as ''skulls66'' said, build up as much momentum as possible. 2) About 6-8 feet before the whitewater creams you, throw ur butt up in the air, pick a knee (which ever is comfy) & draw it up about half way up ur board, & drive the nose of ur board down & kind of out to sea. You want to get down as deep as possible (without hitting the floor, of course). 3) To begin ur ascent, u want to be parallel (momentarily) with the floor. At this point, ur arms should be fully extended. You then use the same leg (you used ur knee with earlier) & with ur toes or the top of ur foot press firmly on the tail of ur board. this will in turn drive the nose of ur board back towards the surface. At this point, ur elbows should be slightly bent. 4) Finally, as the white water passes u by & u r on ur way to the surface, use ur other leg (the one u did not use ur knee with earlier), give a nice aggressive underwater kick. Practice utilizing these steps, & u will be very comfortable duck diving. And duck diving with authority! You should probably know that EVERYBODY gets beat up at least a little bit, almost every time they duck dive. l do not care if ur just learning, or if ur Kelly Slater or Tom Curren.
