Any certain balance exercises or specific muscles to work out before next fall?

yes.dont bother! The last thing we need is another beginner crowding the lineup and getting in the way. Try skimboarding!

Remember your balence, make sure you know how to swim and do not for get that when you wipe out do not fight the wave let the wave carry you and watch out for the breakers.

Hey there, sure there are tones of Surfing Yoga DVD series, these may be good for you. Also try holding your breathe in the pool or something as this helps you to relax when you are under water, thus making you be able to hold your breathe for longer :)

The best way to learn is to take a lesson from someone experienced. Many SoCal surf shops have employees who offer lessons (or know someone reputable), & these r invaluable to learning to surf. Surfing is much more than standing on a board & riding a wave. There r many unspoken rules that people r expected to know when they enter the water- even beginners. l went to school in Orange County, so l surfed a lot at Huntington & Newport. The waves can be great with the right swell. But make sure u get some quality lessons before u venture into the water by yourself. It will only help u become more confident, & u will get respect from other surfers when u know what you're doing. One last thing- if you're truly serious about learning to surf order this book online: Taj Burrow is Book of Hot Surfing. l got it a couple years ago, but it is written by Taj Burrow (a pro Australian surfer). The book goes through everything that every surfer should know! Good luck. Ü

l learned during my trip to Hawaii. One thing l have to say is BE CAREFUL!!!! l took a lesson & the people helped my the whole time since l am only a tween. The next day we decided to rent out boards & go on our own. That didnt work as planed. l got stuck under waves & was scared to death. l never want to be alone with the ocean again. Coral was also a big problem. My board got stuck in it a couple times & l flipped over. l am not trying to scare u it is just l dont want u to hurt yourself not knowing what ur getting into.

the problems youre most likely going to have are: 1) you wont be able to paddle fast enough. 2) youre not going to be able to stand on the board.
make sure you swim A LOT. because if you dont, l guarantee youll be dead. do some pushups. maybe invest in an indo board to help out with balance. pilates and yoga are pretty good too.
but mostly, stay in an area thats not supercrowded because if youre knocking into people you wont make many friends in the water haha.

Remember go under the waves! If ur surfboard is nose goes under wich is called pearling the water u must move the location of ur chin back. What begginers will normaly do is put to much weigh in the back..dont do that! Do not paddle with both arms alot because that will cause the board to speed up & slow down in the water. When its time to stand on the board & ur standing erect u will fall. To be safe never have the boards betweeen yourself & the waves! If ur a begginer wear a leash or leg rope tied to the surfboard.. If u r paddling for a wave & someone is paddling out toward you, make eye contact with that person & indicate to them the way ur going in reference to them. Remember every situation so practice alot being nice in the water! It will make u feel good.Becareful at all times!
BREAK a LEG!!! hAVE FUN!
