alt.surfing is the original newsgroup for surfers. l first posted on it around 1993, & some early members still post there. It is sometimes a good source for hearing initial announcements when something significant happens or someone in the sport dies. There is also a similar newsgroup for longboarders but l do not see many good posts on it lately.
