l am going to learn how to surf this summer and im probably gonna rent a board but l wanna know what kind of board l should get after that.like what brands and what kind of board.l weigh 170.

Well. Depends on which market you're in for. Shortboard or longboard. At ur weight It is teetering on the edge of a heavy-weight shortboarder & a thin longboarder. I'd say go shortboard if u want to do some good tricks, heavy shortboarders usually go 6'2-6'4 but, you're beginning so u would want to go with a longboard more than likely. So start with a longboard about 8'8 or so, learn some longboard tricks & just get about 22-24 inches wide & 3 inches thick. Hope this helps.

Longboards are the easiest to start off with.

If you do not surf, do not start. There is enough kooks in the water already. After Blue Crush all the girls thought they could and now its ridiculous. But if you do, on your first day come down to lowers on a big south.

Dig around the answered questions section. This question gets asked like once a week. Ignore people who tell you not to start. If they are not willing to share waves then they have forgotten why they started surfing in the first place.

l think you should get an al meric but it should be about 7 feet long cuz your just learning.
